Life in 3rd Class

Above is a drawing of a third class cabin onboard an Olympic-class ship.

Third class was for immigrants. Almost all the people here were coming to America to start a better life. Most of them where from Europe but a few came from other places. If you were onboard an Olympic-class ship, this is what it would be like if you were in third class.

The Third Class Dining Saloon

You would have all your meals in the third class dining saloon (above). If you compare it to the cafes in 1st Class and 2nd Class, you can see that it is very different. Third class had little access to the ship. They were mostly kept below decks. The only place above decks where they were allowed to go was the forecastle deck. The problem was that they were not allowed on the boat deck. Even stupider, when Titanic was sinking, they weren't allowed on the boat deck. Most third class passengers died because of this.
